Road Trip To LONAVALA

Lonavala is a budget friendly and picture perfect hill station for an exciting weekend getaway. And this trip won’t make a hole in your pocket. If you like road tripping through the hills and mountains, then this destination should be on top of your list! Just 2 to 3 hours’ drive from Mumbai.

Many of us wonder if we can make the Lonavala trip on a scooty. The answer is YES! You can easily go to Lonavala on your Activa/Scooty. Take Old Mumbai-Pune Highway as it is mostly recommended for two wheeler and not that crowded. Do not take the expressway as it is only for 4 wheeler. Things to keep in mind-
  • Drive safe, especially during rainy season.
  • Don’t overtake.
  • Take a little break in between.

We started our journey from Kalyan at 6 in the morning. We took the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway via Khopoli. Riding through such scenic route is an experience in itself. It doesn’t matter for much time you’re driving because you’ll never get bored of the roads. This route is very much recommended for two wheeler as it is not crowded and more safer.

Here are some pictures of the Mumbai Pune Highway that we clicked on our way to Lonavala. Hope you like it.

What places we explored in Lonavala?

LIONS POINT
Lion’s point is one of the key attractions of Lonavala. The drive to the point is equally scenic which provides a mesmerizing view of the mountains. It is one of the most popular attractions in Lonavala and also among the must visit places in Lonavala. You are overlooking a valley in front of you and gorgeous mountains in the front. The beauty of this place is uniquely different in different Seasons. In rainy season it is all foggy and in summer you can have a clear view. But one thing that remains constant is the wind. The wind is extremely strong at this place.
There are camel rides and atv rides available at the point. There are a lot of street food joints that just adds magic to the place. You can have maggi, chai and pakoda while enjoying watching sunset/sunrise.

BHUSHI DAM
Quite a site during monsoon and hell crowded. In summer time, there is not much to offer but still you visit here for a peaceful time around the lake. During summer time, it’s mostly not that crowded. There are a lot of restaurants and fast food joints here to satisfy your hunger.
If you plan to stay in Lonavala, then there are a lot of hotels and lodges in this area at affordable rates.

MONKEY POINT, KHANDALA
Entry is free for all. A beautiful view of Mumbai-Pune highway can also be seen from this point. Nice greenery everywhere peace and calm. You can literally spend hours here and not get bored. There are many monkeys around. You may feed them or simply admire them.

FOOD
For lunch, we stopped at RAJ FAMILY RESTAURANT, which is nearby to the Lonavala railway station. We had chicken thali, veg thali, malvani chicken and malayali parantha. If you really want taste more than ambiance then I would suggest every person travelling lonavala to try Malvani Chicken from this restaurant.

That's all about my trip to Lonavala. Hope this will help you guys to plan your trip according to it. See you on my next blog!
